Description ABOUT THE BOOK In agroforestry systems, tree component play crucial role in sustaining production by improving microclimate of the whole biological systems. But significant positive effects can only be expected when about 30% land is covered with vegetation. To achieve this target, a long term planting of suitable agroforestry tree species has to be implemented and felling of trees has to be stopped immediatelt. Looking to change of emphasis, ICAR constituted 5th Dean’s Committee to review the prevalent course curriculum for agriculture and horticultural education and based on the recommendations, subject panels were constituted to develop appropriate course curriculum and syllabi for different areas of agriculture and horticulture science at undergraduate levels. The panel has identified TEXTBOOK OF AGROFORESTRY as an important course. In continuation of this exercise, it was pertinent to develop relevant literature on TEXTBOOK OF AGROFORESTRY. To fulfil the requirement of this course for B.Sc. (Ag.) as well as those of B.Sc. (Hort.) degree, this book entitled “TEXTBOOK OF AGROFORESTRY” is being brought out to meet the entire requirements of Syllabi Recommended by 5th Dean’s Committee of ICAR. Basically, this book has been written with undergraduate students of agriculture and horticulture in colleges and universities in mind but it will also equally suit the requirements of practitioners and preachers of tree culture on scientific lines. The literature cited in writing this book is thankfully acknowledged. Hopefully this effort shall benefit not only students of agriculture, horticulture and forestry but all those who are involved in the production and promotion of forestry culture in India.
